Michigan Authorities Issue Warnings to 323 Boaters Violating Governor’s Order
Despite the governor’s revised stay-at-home order that prohibits residents from venturing outdoors except in extreme cases, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources issued 323 warnings to boaters over the weekend, officials report. In addition to the warnings, the department issued citations to five residents for “failing to observe social distancing requirements,” officials say. The warnings and citations were all issued in the state’s lower peninsula. The crackdown comes after Governor Gretchen Whitmer last week revised her previous stay-at-home order, banning residents from visiting neighbors and family. The order also specifically forbade residents from operating motorized boats and boating with people from other households.
