Weekdays 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Detroit wants to remind attendees about some of the rules and regulations that will be in effect on Monday, June 27 for the Ford Fireworks downtown. First, it’s good to note that if your are wondering where to park and watch the lightshow, Hart Plaza and Belle Isle are recommended as the best places to watch the Ford Fireworks. Additionally, the city would like to remind attendees that Hart Plaza will be open, but with limited capacity. That being said there are a few rules for minors that plan on attending tonight’s festivities. The city will enforce a curfew for minors from 8 p.m. Monday evening until 6a.m. Tuesday morning. Curfews will be implemented in the following areas: Detroit River, Third Street, Lodge Freeway, Fisher Freeway, extension of Fisher Freeway east to Gratiot Avenue, Gratiot Avenue, Vernor Highway, Chene Street, Atwater Street, and The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult over the age of 21. Curfew violators will be taken to the Butzel Family Center and held there until they are picked up by a parent or guardian. The following items are NOT permitted in Hart Plaza:

  • No tents, alcohol, drones, pets, or contraband (weapons, knives, etc.) will be allowed.
  • Flames or fires are prohibited, and cooking is not permitted.
  • Fireworks are not allowed.
  • Reserving an area in excess of the number of people is currently prohibited.

As for Belle Isle, the following items that are NOT allowed in/on the premises:

  • Alcohol consumption is prohibited on the island.
  • No tents and canopies are allowed.
  • RV parking will be on the paddock area near the Casino.
  • Consumer fireworks are not permitted on the island.

If you plan to drive Downtown for the fireworks, there will be several road closures beginning at 6 p.m. This may affect your evening commute driving home as well. Beginning at 6 p.m. today, traffic in Downtown Detroit will be changed as follows:

  • No northbound or southbound traffic will be allowed on Woodward Avenue, beginning at Park Avenue and Witherell Street. Motorists may cross Woodward Avenue at John R Road/Clifford Street, Grand River Avenue and State Street/Gratiot Avenue.
  • All streets south of Fort Street and west of Woodward Avenue will be closed.
  • All streets south of Congress Street and east of Woodward Avenue will be closed.
  • Beginning at 6 p.m., freeways around the area will begin to close.

The Detroit Police Department also has a list of freeways and road closures posted via their Twitter account that is attached below.

As always, be safe and enjoy the show Detroit!
