The Detroit Lions Super Bowl hopes have come to an end. After losing to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in a come from behind victory, the Lions will have to regroup and try and next year. An angry Lions fan base took to social media following the 34-31 loss in San Francisco after leading 24-7 at halftime.
Many fans believed that Lions head coach Dan Campbell should have kicked two field goal (from 46 and 48 yards) to help put the team in a better position to win, but he true Dan Campbell fashion he went for it on fourth down twice and unfortunately the team came a bit short. In the aftermath of a game like this, it’s easy to blame the head coach, but I’m not sure he’s solely to blame for the Lions mishaps in the second half.

There were some dropped passes that key guys normally make, a fumble by Gibbs, some missed tackles and of course a missed opportunity at an interception that turned into a catch by 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk which ultimately lead to a Niners touchdown. To sum it up the Lions did not have a great second half of football and it cost them.
What’s Next for team? The stench of losing this NFC Championship game the way they did will more than likely fuel the Lions this offseason. They know they can compete with the best of them and were just three point shy of going to the Super Bowl. That said, the team will make the necessary adjustments and find the right guys, both players and coaches, to come in and help fix some of the weakness the team was plagued with the whole season.
The Lions have a lot of cap space will likely be using it to sign some elite talent in the off season just like they did this year. This a special team with special players and a special coach and coaching staff that fans can believe in.
