Afro Nation Festival’s only US Stop is in Detroit: Here’s the scoop
With so many exciting events on the calendar in Detroit, one of the biggest nationwide tours is making its way back to Detroit – and we’re the only US stop.
I sat down with the Co-founder of Afro Nation, Adesegun Adeosun Jr., best known as Smade, and their Communications Manager, Esosa Uddah, to get the specifics about this year’s two-day event in Detroit.
Melody Freshhh: All right, 105.9 Kiss FM, number one for smooth R&B and old school in the D. I’m Melody Freshhh, and today we’re talking all things happening in Detroit with two amazing guests who are putting on a huge event, Afro Nation 2024. Last year was a blast, and they’re back again, better than ever. Let’s welcome SMADE, co-founder of Afro Nation, and Esosa, the communications and media manager.
SMADE (Adesegun Adeosun Jr.): Hey, hey, y’all!
Melody Freshhh: So, Afro Nation is making Detroit its only U.S. stop this year. How did that come about?
SMADE: The love we got last year was amazing. It was a beautiful experience filled with culture and community. We had to come back because Detroit showed us so much love.
Melody Freshhh: How did Afro Nation start? How did the idea come about?
SMADE: It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve been a culture ambassador since a young age, growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, and then moving to the UK. I wanted to promote our culture through music, food, and fashion. After years of organizing events, I partnered with Oba Sica, and we created Afro Nation. We’ve now taken it to Ghana, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Miami, and now Detroit.
Melody Freshhh: This year’s lineup is incredible. Who can we expect to see on stage?
Esosa Uddah: On the main stage, we have Rema, Asake, Lil Wayne, PartyNextDoor, and Detroit’s very own Kash Doll. The amapiano stage features Uncle Waffles, Scorpion King, Musa Keys, and DBN Gogo. It’s a packed lineup with the best of the best.
Melody Freshhh: For those who attended last year, what’s new this year?
SMADE: If you came last year, you know it was an amazing experience. This year, it’s even bigger with new artists like Lil Wayne and PartyNextDoor. We have a VIP village, GA tickets, and more. It’s all about celebrating our identity, culture, and vibes. Bring your friends and family, and come enjoy the music, food, and fashion.
Melody Freshhh: What should attendees bring to the festival?
Esosa Uddah: Sunscreen, water, battery packs, portable fans, and, of course, your best vibes and cultural outfits. Represent yourself and your culture!
Melody Freshhh: Are there any tickets left?
Esosa Uddah: Yes, we’re down to the last remaining tickets, so secure yours now at Detroit.afronation.com.
Melody Freshhh: Afro Nation Detroit is at the Bedrock on August 17th and 18th. I’m so excited to attend this year. Thank you both for bringing this incredible event back to Detroit.
SMADE: Thank you for having us. We’re looking forward to an even bigger and better experience this year.
