Will Michigan Have a White Christmas?
Christmas is still a few weeks away, but people are already wondering if Michigan will have a white Christmas this year. Whether or not it’s a white Christmas, rest assured that Santa has all kind of modern technology on his sleigh, so he really doesn’t need snow to get the job done. That’s all the more reason why I prefer to not have a white Christmas, but that’s just me.
Historically, Michigan has record highs and lows ranging from -29 degrees to 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. That’s pretty insane. Chances are, we won’t be near any of those extremes on Christmas this year.
So, who has the answer as to whether we’ll see a white Christmas this year? Let’s turn to the Farmers’ Almanac, which has been known to accurately predict weather trends for generations.
According to the Farmers’ Almanac, Michigan is in the almanac’s “Zone 2,” which also includes the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley & Midwest, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Wisconsin. “Merry mushy Christmas! Christmas weather: turning milder with a few showers of wet snow, rain,” the almanac states for our area. So, yeah, we won’t be getting much snow. Elsewhere, in “Zone 1,” which includes New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C., there also won’t be much snow. “Sorry snow lovers – your Christmas weather looks more wet than white!” the almanac’s Zone 1 prediction states. The only areas that look like they could get snow are “Zone 6,” which is Northwest America; “Zone 5,” which is South Central, but only the northern portion; and “Zone 4,” which is the Rockies and Plains.
