Michigan Clothing Store Closing After 6 Years
There are a slew of great clothing stores throughout Michigan, but let’s face it- many of those clothing shops are national. That said, it’s very special when you find a locally owned clothing store that appeals to your style and fashion sense. I can only think of a handful of local clothing shops that are in my area, and I wish there were more, because I love supporting local businesses, especially if they offer some fashionable options.
Sadly, a Michigan clothing shop is now closing its doors for good after around six years in business. The good news is that it the store will still do business online, but the in-person shop is closing.
Détroit is the New Black, the popular clothing destination on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit, is closing this weekend. The store took to Instagram to announce the closing, stating that its last day open will be this Sunday (Feb. 27). The business opened in 2016 and began offering women’s clothing. Over the years, it has expanded its line, and now offers many different options.
“It is truly bittersweet to close our doors. I believe that our mission to provide space for under-represented founders and Black-owned businesses was accomplished through our time downtown. The brand was built as an optimistic platform to champion an inclusive future city. One that authentically offers ‘Opportunity Detroit’ for everyone,” founder and CEO Roslyn Karamoko said via a statement on Instagram. As mentioned, the store will still be open online, so you can get your clothing fix on the web. That’s how many people are shopping these days anyway, so it’s great to see that the store is offering an online option for local shoppers. I’ll certainly be checking out the selection, especially during the holidays. Find Détroit is the New Black online at Detroitisthenewblack.com.
