Michigan: Our Minimum Wage Will Increase on Jan. 1

Those earning minimum wage in Michigan will see an increase in their paychecks starting Jan. 1. The annual schedule and increases are based on Michigan’s Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act of 2018. So, how much is the increase?

Michigan’s minimum wage rate will go up to to $9.87 beginning on Jan. 1, 2022, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO). The current minimum wage is $9.65.

Starting Jan. 1, 2022, the following will happen:

• Michigan’s minimum wage will increase to $9.87 an hour.
• The 85% rate for minors (16 and 17) will increase to $8.39 an hour.
• Tipped employees rates of pay will increase to $3.75 an hour. (Side note: I waitressed in college and remember how tough it was when there were no tips, because we were making so little with our hourly wage!)
• The training wage of $4.25 an hour for new employees ages 16 to 19 will be unchanged. That’s for their first 90 days of employment.

• You can’t be drunk on a train

• You can’t “seduce and corrupt an unmarried girl”

  According to Michigan law, "No man may seduce and corrupt an unmarried girl. Any man who shall seduce and debauch any unmarried woman shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not more than 5 years or by fine of not more than 2,500 dollars; but no prosecution shall be commenced under this section after 1 year from the time of committing the offense." • You can’t commit adultery
