Aretha Franklin’s Son Opens Up To Starr
Aretha’s Family Upset With The Bio-pic ‘Genius: Aretha’
After the airing of the ‘Genius: Aretha’ bio-pic this past Sunday Aretha Franklin’s youngest son Kecalf Franklin speaks out on why he and other members of the family are upset over the film. Members of Aretha’s immediate family have been speaking out against the bio-pic since it was announced. There was even a protest against the film held in downtown Detroit outside a screening of the bio-pic. We want your local opinion to be heard on Kiss FM, find out how below.
Details From The Family
Only here on Kiss FM Detroit is where you’ll hear Kecalf speak out to Starr, where he explains how directors of the bio-pic had never reached out to the closet of kin for the film. Many of the closest family members to Aretha have been calling to boycott the series. The family has made a website called Justice For The Queen, where it details the fact-finding that the family would like represented.
Kecalf Franklin gave his public statement to Mason & Starr stating:
“When my brothers and I became aware of this project, the Genius series had already started production. It is our opinion that the producers of this series neglected to take the necessary steps to properly prepare for this biopic production. Most creatives begin with a subject’s immediate family to produce the most authentic and honest version of that person’s life. In our opinion the Genius series failed to do so. I nor my brothers have ever spoken with the producers of this series. We agree that our mother’s life’s work should be celebrated but with respect.”
