AMC Offering $5 Movie Tickets Throughout February To Celebrate Black History Month
AMC theaters are celebrating Black History Month by offering moviegoers $5 movie tickets to see a small selection of films starring or films created by Black filmmakers and actors, throughout the month of February.
According to AMC, there will be a feature film shown each week and will be shown twice daily in around 175 locations across the US. AMC said in a statement, “Black filmmakers and actors have given the world some of the most inspiring and captivating cinematic experiences, and that tradition has continued over the past few years with some amazing films that span multiple genres.”

The films will very from action to comedy to drama or a combination of the sort. The films will star popular actors and actresses like Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Shameik Moore and Daveed Diggs. As mentioned previously, AMC Theatres will show two screenings of one of the films during each week of the promotion. The movies are as follows:
February 2-8: “The Equalizer 3” A action/thriller film starring Denzel Washington and directed by Antoine Fuqua. Washington plays a retired U.S. Marine and DIA officer named Robert McCall, who sets out to take down a mafia-style crime group known as the Camorra to protect his new friends in a small town in South Italy.
February 9-15: “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” A animated action film starring Shameik Moore voicing Miles Morales aka Spider-Man. Morales is a teen living in Brooklyn, NY who discovers his superpowers ( or Spidey powers as marvel fans would call it) and is transported into the multiverse to work alongside other Spider-People/beings in order to protect multiple universes from being destroyed.
February 16-22: “The Color Purple” This film stars Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson and Danielle Brooks. This adaptation uses musical numbers from the stage production to tell the story of Celie (Fantasia Barrino), a Black teen girl living in the deep American South in the early 19th century. The film chronicles Celie’s struggles over the few next decades and her ability to overcome them.
February 23-February 29: “Soul” This animated Pixar film tells the story of a jazz pianist named Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx) who finds himself trapped between Earth and the afterlife after finally landing the big-break gig of his life.
