Lions Get Win Heading Into Bye Week: Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs Has Breakout Game
The Detroit Lions are back in the winner circle after they defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14 at Ford Field on Monday night. The Lions had one objective that was made, loud and clear: last week was not who we are. Even though the final scre of 26-14 doesn’t look lopsided, the stat sheet said otherwise as the Lions dominated the Raiders in almost every category. The Lions really took it to the raider especially on the defensive end allowing the Raider only 157 yards of total offensive and sacking Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo six times. But, the highlight of the night was the breakout game from the Lions 12th overall pick Jahmyr Gibbs.
In his “Monday Night Football” debut, Lions rookie Jahmyr Gibbs exploded for 189 yards from scrimmage, delivering a message for fantasy managers who have questioned his production. “I’m tired of hearing it.” Gibbs told the media. In the absence of veteran running back David Montgomery, the No. 12 overall pick is not likely to be criticized this week since he rushed for 152 yards with a touchdown on heavy workloads giving fantasy owners (if you started him) 29.9 points. In addition to his 31 touches, Gibbs recorded five receptions for 37 receiving yards as well. Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff, said Gibbs will benefit from the performance going forward saying, its a “good little springboard.” The Detroit Lions are off to a 6-2 start for the first time since 2014 heading into the bye week next week. There’s plenty of reason for optimism for Detroit going into its bye week, as the Lions have the fourth-easiest remaining schedule in the NFL based on their opponents’ records (.421 combined win percentage). The Lions currently have the second best record in the NFC.
