Another One Bites The Dust: Lions Win Again!
The Detroit Lions defeated the Caroline Panthers Sunday at Ford Field 42-24, giving them a 4-1 record and extend their winning streak to three games. Without two of their top offensive players in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, as well as their rookie standout defensive back Brian Branch, the team still took care of business at home against a winless Panthers team. The Lions forced three first-half turnovers and scored 21 points to help build a commanding lead in the first half. The Lions were still able to spread the ball around through the air, even though they missing St.Brown and Jameson Williams was on a snaps restriction. Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta was called upon and answered the call. LaPorta recorded 3 receptions for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The defense for the Lions showed up as well. Aidan Hutchinson led the defense with another outstanding performance. In addition to his one-handed interception, ( super impressive by the way) the star defensive end had one sack, and three tackles. Defensive back Jerry Jacobs also had an interception, making it this third of the season and interior defensive lineman Alim McNeil forced a fumble allowing the offensive of the Lions to go down and score.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed 20 of 28 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Besides the two Sam LaPorta touchdowns and the Josh Reynolds touchdown, he also added a quarterback sneak late in the game. The Lions were clicking on all cylinders yesterday and continued to look like a playoff contending team.
The Lions will hit the road next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are 3-1 and coming off a bye-week so they will be well rested. The will for sure be a challenge for the Lions.
