Michigan Has 2 of the Top Hotel Bars in the U.S.
If you’re traveling and staying in a hotel, maybe something that you like doing is checking out the snazzy hotel bar. The same could be said for hotel restaurants, but there’s something cool about sitting up at a hotel bar and swapping stories with the person next to you. People at restaurant bars come from all over, so you might even make a new best friend from another area. Now, the experts at USA Today have named two Michigan hotel bars among the best in the country.
The Best Hotel Bars
USA Today’s 10 Best has put out a tally of the best hotel bars in the country. The 10 bars were picked by an expert panel and voted as the best in the country by the USA Today readers for their “great atmospheres and stellar mixologists.” They add that for most of these bars, you won’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the experience, which is nice. I’ve definitely made a habit of eating at hotel restaurants, even if I’m not staying at those hotels.
Before we get local, let’s look at the No. 1 hotel bar in the country. According to the experts at USA Today, it’s Carousel Bar & Lounge at Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, Louisiana. They write that this spot is “a famous stopping point in the revered Hotel Monteleone.” It dates back to 1949 and actually “spins its patrons around as they sip a drink from the expansive cocktail menu. Non-revolving seating is available for those drinkers who’d rather stay stationary while they imbibe.”
For Michigan, when it comes to the best hotel bars, coming in at No. 10 on the tally is the Candy Bar at The Siren Hotel at 1509 Broadway Street in Detroit. “As sweet as the name implies, this kitschy hotel bar features a lineup of colorful cocktails and a retro vibe that makes guests feel like they’ve stepped back in time,” USA Today writes. They also love the “crushed velvet seating and add that “locals and tourists alike describe this colorful bar, with its unique chandelier, as one of the most Instagrammable spots in Detroit.”
Also, No. 8 on the roster is the Apparatus Room at the Detroit Foundation Hotel at 250 West Larned Steet in Detroit, with USA Today saying that this place “gives a nod to the history of Detroit in an industrial space with a modern flair.” They add, “A fantastic selection of sustainable wines and carefully crafted cocktails pair with a classic menu of New American fare for a true Rust Belt experience.” I hope you give these spots at try if you’re traveling around the D.
