Former Michigan State Football Player Scores First NFL Touchdown
It’s always a heartfelt feeling to see someone who used to play college football on your favorite team go onto the NFL and have success. If you’re a Michigan State University fan, then you might feel good to know that one former Michigan State football player just made his first touchdown in the NFL. No, he doesn’t play for the Detroit Lions, which would make it even better. But, either way, we should be proud to see this former Spartan doing well on the big stage.
Keon Coleman, Once a Michigan State Football Player, Scores First NFL Touchdown
Wide receiver Keon Coleman, a former Spartan, notched his first touchdown in the NFL playing for the Buffalo Bills last weekend. Coleman started playing when the Buffalo offense was eight plays in on its third drive of the game at the beginning of the second quarter. Bills Quarterback Josh Allen passed to Coleman downfield for a 24-yard catch, and Coleman ran into the end zone and scored his first NFL touchdown. The Bills beat Jacksonville, 47-10.
“Great play-call by [OC] Joe [Brady],” Coleman told media in a postgame press conference. “Me and [receivers coach] Adam [Henry] watched film on that, came to fruition. Deep crosser, got outside leverage, man, and just beat him to the spot.”
‘It Lived Up to the Expectations’
Coleman also said the moment totally met his expectations of what it would be like to scare a touchdown in the NFL.
“It lived up to the expectations 100%,” Coleman shared. “Just feeling the crowd, it’s electric. Getting you your first catch of the game for it to go for a touchdown I mean Monday Night Football, I don’t think you can get something else better.”
Head coach Sean McDermott added that he was “very impressed with the way Keon handled it and then to go back out there in the second quarter, I think it was the second quarter when he caught the touchdown pass. I know how important his teammates are to him, and again, this will be a learning opportunity for him.”
During the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit, Keon Coleman was selected as the first pick of the second round, No. 33 overall, by the Buffalo Bills. The wide receiver was with Michigan State football for two seasons and then transferred to Florida State for one season. With Florida State, he had 658 receiving yards on 50 catches and 11 touchdowns in 2023. He spent a total of three years in college before declaring for the draft and finished his college run with 1,506 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns on 115 receptions.
Monday Night Football on September 30 will feature the Lions against the Seahawks at Ford Field.
