Baby Girl Miraculously Born in Parking Garage at Michigan Hospital
When a baby is ready to come into the world, there’s no stopping that baby from saying “hello” to everyone. What’s more, that’s even if it’s in an unlikely area. Well, a baby girl excited to enter the world was born in the parking garage of Michigan hospital, thanks to a team of very skilled Emergency Department caregivers.
Thankfully, mother and daughter are doing very well. Here’s the inspiring story.
The birth happened in the parking garage of E.W. Sparrow Hospital. “Our team got word that there was a someone delivering in the parking lot and raced outside,” Katheryn Moody, M.D., said in a statement. “We worked together and helped deliver a healthy baby girl while the first snow of fall was falling. Mom and baby did great and we are honored to be a part of their story.”
The birth happened on Monday, Oct. 30, in the family’s Suburban. Dr. Moody had a great team with her to help bring the baby into the world, including registered nurse Jessica Carpenter and Sparrow EMT Amanda Wonsey. Also, Desiree Albano, D.O., an OB-GYN resident, helped after the baby girl was safely delivered. The baby weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces. “It’s a Monday I will never forget,” Wonsey said. “I have worked in the hospital setting for a total of 26 years, and this was my first parking lot delivery. I am really glad that baby and mom are doing well.”
The beautiful baby girl was at Sparrow’s Regional Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) a few days and then discharged home. “Her mom was also treated and is also now home and doing well,” according to a release. Sparrow Hospital adds that they recently achieved a “platinum” designation from the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (MI AIM), “the highest ranking possible for its care of pregnant and new moms, highlighting our efforts to ensure expecting mothers and our youngest patients receive the highest quality care in Mid-Michigan.”
