Historic Michigan Hotel is Permanently Closing
It’s always sad when a beloved Michigan business closes its doors, and now, one historic Michigan hotel has announced that it’s permanently closing. I write a lot of stories about Michigan restaurants closing, but seeing this legendary hotel close is a new thing. It’s definitely heartbreaking to see this beloved spot leaving us, but at least the thousands of people who experienced this place will always have those memories.
Historic Michigan Hotel Closing
The owners of the famed Holly Hotel in Holly, Michigan, have posted on their official Facebook account that they’re closing and selling the property. The news comes a few years after a large fire in Holly damaged the building. The hotel has actually been closed since June of 2022 due to the fire, but this is the first time they’re announcing that they’re closing for good.
According to WXYZ.com, the Battle Alley Arcade Antiques Mall close to the hotel was also damaged in the fire, and it permanently closed. Since then, WXYZ.com notes that there’s been “a dispute over the property line” which “has prevented the hotel from being rebuilt and reopening.”
But, back to the happy memories. A Christmas movie was even filmed at the historic Michigan hotel. It’s called “Christmas at Holly Hotel.” The description for the movie states that the storyline “follows Kathy, a food critic in New York City. Her parents ask her to come home for Christmas, and there she meets a handsome police officer, which now complicates her situation.” I actually found this movie on Tubi last holiday season and watched it. It’s definitely a cute holiday movie that fits alongside Hallmark-type movies. If I’m being honest with myself, that’s totally my thing. So, if you want to see what this historic Michigan hotel looked like in all its glory, watch that movie. It should be available to watch on a bunch of platforms over the holidays.
In the post on Facebook, owners George and Chrissy Kutlenios wrote, “The Historic Holly Hotel is for sale.” They added, “After 46 years of operation, we have made the difficult decision to sell the Historic Holly Hotel. The litigation with the owner of the adjoining vacant lot is continuing, and we await confirmation of another trial date. To all we have welcomed into our establishment, it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve you. We fervently hope the Historic Holly Hotel’s legacy will continue in new hands.
