Detroit Youth Choir Auditions
Does your child have the voice of an angel? Do they have dreams of being part of a nation wide choir? If so, there’s an opportunity for your child to join the internationally-known Detroit Youth Choir. This weekend, the DYC is hosting open auditions for new members. As we all know, the Detroit Youth Choir gained popularity after being runner ups in season 14 of “Americas Got Talent”
Some seasoned singers thought it would be a good idea to offer have some sound advice for people who plan on trying out for DYC. “So many people try out, and it really matters what you can do, what’s special about you, what do you bring.” Said Naona Chambers. Maya Rudds added, “You have to be able to overcome your fear because you’re in a room alone, and then they just tell you to go.” Melonie Hobbs, assistant vocal director of the choir, said some singers start out as young as eight years of age. According to her, it is fulfilling to watch these children grow over the years.
The auditions will take place from noon to 5 p.m. at Marygrove College on Saturday, Aug. 27. All participants are asked to send a video audition containing a sample of them singing and answering a few questions. The video must be submitted by August 24. Auditions are open to children between the ages of 8 and 18. Detroit come audition for a one of best youth choirs in the country.
