Motown Mic Open Audition
Attention all spoken word artists, poets and rappers who think the got the best lyrics, Motown mic is having open auditions for its Motown Mic: The Spoken Word program beginning in January 2022. The show was created to pay homage to Motown Records’ Black Forum Label. The label was created by none other than the legendary Berry Gordy. It was created as a venue for black expression and education. The goal was to capture and present as many black and African American poets as possible. Some of those voices included the likes of famous poets and speakers like Langston Hughes, Stokely Carmichael, Elaine Brown, Ossie Davis and even the late great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., just to name a few. Motown revolutionized the music industry in the late 70’s and 80’s and is still one of the most iconic music labels till this day. The Black Forum Label contributed to the success in lifting black poets voices and Motown Motown Mic: The Spoken Word wishes to continue the legacy.
In order to be eligible for the show here is the criteria:
- Contestants must be 16 years of age or older. If a contestants is under 18, they must submit a performance release for minors signed by a parent/legal guardian.
- All contestants MUST be solo acts.
- All performances are to be family-friendly. NO profane, vulgar or explicit sexual lyrics are allowed.
Please be advised that Motown Museum, nor their successors will pay any contestants to compete in this event. Hurry the deadline to apply is December 12th
