Newly Renovated Recreation Centers Reopening!
Detroit Parks & Recreation are reopening five of their recreation centers, after being closed for over a year due to COVID. These parks/rec centers include, Adams Butzel Complex, Patton Rec Center, Lasky Rec Center, Kemeny Rec Center and Farwell Rec Center. Upon their reopening, the rec centers intend to invite new classes that residents can sign up for. The reopening’s also allow the city of Detroit to show off some of the new amenities and renovations that were added to the recreation centers. These include new floor and wall improvements, landscaping and brand new murals.
Adams Butzel Complex had the largest improvement, with roughly 4.2 million dollars worth of renovation work done. This includes a new ice rink, new HVAC systems, new pool deck, lighting improvements, lobby and bathroom renovations etc. Patton Rec Center was the next rec cent that had the most work done with about $900,000 worth of renovations done.
Keith Flournoy, Deputy Director of Detroit Parks & Recreations said that, “We’re glad to welcome Detroiters back to our recreation center, the centers are the place where we impact Detroiters lives and I’m prod to be able to get back to that.” Butzel’s grand opening was Monday, September 20, however the other parks are said to open today Tuesday September 21, if you wish to attend.
