Lions Say They’re Preparing to Host Fans at Ford Field This Year
The Detroit Lions are prepping Ford Field with 250 hand sanitizer stations, touchless faucets, pre-prepared and properly packaged and other safety precautions, in hopes the NFL season will be a go during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Lions said Friday (Aug. 7) that they’re still hoping to host fans at home games in 2020, although there’s still “uncertainty surrounding how many fans, if any,” will be allowed to be there in-person.
“The organization is preparing to host fans at all eight regular season home games, but there is still uncertainty surrounding how many fans, if any, will be allowed to attend games during the 2020 season or under what conditions,” the team said in a statement.
The Lions, like other NFL teams, are allowing ticket holders to opt out of 2020 or get refunds without losing their status and perks, offering to move them into 2021 season tickets.
As with other NFL teams, in order to host spectators, the Lions will have to get state and local approval, so time will tell if it happens.
If it happens, some of the stadium improvements and new policies and procedures are as follows:
- More than 250 touchless hand sanitizer stands throughout concourses along with touchless faucets, toilets and paper towel dispensers in every restroom
- Signage throughout the building reminding fans to socially distance
- All fans and employees will be required to wear face coverings at all times
- Food options to be pre-prepared and properly packaged
- Fans required to be sitting or stationary when consuming food or beverages
- Capacities of club lounges and other spaces limited in accordance with CDC social distancing guidelines
- Plexiglass at every point of sale location throughout stadium
- Designated gates and entry times to be assigned to all incoming fans
- No tailgating will be allowed in stadium parking lots
- All transactions will be cashless (credit or debit card only)
