Coin Shortage Causes Kroger to Stop Giving Customers Change – Here Are the the Options

If you’re hoping to get some shiny change on your way out of Kroger, think again.
Amid a nationwide coin shortage, Kroger – the country’s largest supermarket chain – has announced it will no longer give its customers coins as change.
Kroger officials say cashiers will offer customers two options instead of coins: get the change applied to their loyalty cards to use for their next purchase, or donate it to Kroger’s “Round Up” program, which gives the change to charity.
According to the Federal Reserve, people have been using less hard cash due to coronavirus (COVID-19), so there are fewer coins in circulation right now.
