Big Money Sales First Day Of Legal Marijuana In Michigan
Michigan Rakes in more than $220K on 1st Day of Legal Weed It’s probably a safe bet to say lawmakers are happy with their decision to legalize weed in Michigan, where $221,000 was taken in by four marijuana shops on the first day of legal sales. And one of the stores was open for only two hours.
The demand was so great on Sunday that hundreds of customers, who were lined up outside the new stores for a chance to buy legal pot, had to be turned away when the stores closed at 9 p.m. After selling marijuana products to at least 900 people, Omar Hishmeh — owner of Exclusive Brands in Ann Arbor — gave his unserved customers vouchers to enter a raffle for Detroit Pistons tickets, he says. Andrew Brisbo, director of the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency, says the first day went exactly as expected. “The demand is already there and we’re inching toward the supply that will meet that demand,” he says. What’s stopping all 50 states from legalizing marijuana? Does it make sense for a state to allow alcohol sales but not marijuana sales?
