Celebrating Black Art in Detroit With DIA
While Detroit continues to celebrate Black History Month, DIA wants to shine a bright light on some artist and exhibits here at their institute. Sharon Harrell, the Community Engagement Manager at the DIA was joined by Local 4’s own Jason Carr to discuss some of the events taking place at the DIA, and how you can participate. According to Harrell, a new exhibition on Black artists is being held at the DIA this year.
The first exhibit is titled Shirley Woodson: Shield of the Nile Reflections. The exhibition showcases 11 paintings by the renowned Detroit artist and educator. The second exhibition is titled The New Black Vanguard: Photography between Art and Fashion. This exhibit features 100 photographs from pioneering Black artists. if you live in Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb County, residents may attend either exhibition in person or virtually and both exhibits are free.
