Books are always a great idea when you have spare time but it’s something about sitting down with your favorite snack and watching something that will make you forget about the world around you! Below I’ve listed some of the best movies and shows with my personal reviews that you could binge in a weekend.

Best Movies and Shows to Binge Right Now!

Fool Me Once 10/10-  

Fool me Once is a limited series, with eight 45 min to 1 hour long episodes, that will keep you glued to the  TV screen with every single episode you watch. It was a suspenseful thriller, every time I would predict for something to happen, I would be completely wrong! The main character Maya Stern played by Michelle Keegan  is troubled in life as she witnessed her husband Joe get murdered right in front of her. While Maya and her daughter are settling into their new reality, Maya installs a nanny cam inside of her house and sees her dead husband on the camera hugging their young daughter. Of course I would never ruin the ending but it’s definitely worth binging on your spare time!

 

The Perfect Find 8/10–

With Valentine’s Day around the corner I thought The Perfect Find would be the ideal movie to put me in the lovey dovey spirit. The Perfect Find starring Gabrielle Union is a cute, romantic “feel good” movie that did indeed make me feel lovey dovey by the time I finished it. In my opinion Gabrielle Union always plays the alpha women, so it was nice seeing her in a more sweet, vulnerable role. Jenna is a single 40 year old fashion editor who is  overthinking the fact she’s getting older with no kids or even a solid love life. She meets a FINE young man played by Keith Powers at a party, they flirt and hit it off, but soon discovers his mother is her new boss… Seems messy right ?! Check it out .

My Wife and Kids 10/10-

Black History Month is here and for the culture I couldn’t help but notice My Wife and Kids staring Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell has been added to Netflix! My wife and kids is considered a classic at this point in time in my opinion. Watching the Kyles as a family has always been so comical and good for the whole family, the laughs will fill up your home while  your  completing those clothes you have neglected the past week .

Lift 7/10 –

The only reason why I would give this move a 7/10 is because once you got into it, the film became a tad predictable. However, I would consider myself a Kevin Hart fan and I love to laugh ,so I thought seeing him in an action role was indeed refreshing. Cyrus played Kevin Hart is a master thief, but when the FBI confronts him about helping them with an impractical heist things get pretty exciting! It’s overall a good action movie and I would definitely suggest throwing it in the “add to watchlist” .

 

Great Shows to watch if you do not have Netflix or Hulu!

If you don’t have Netflix, I’ve found myself watching a lot of Tubi. With just your email you can watch so many different types of films for FREE. I love animations but something about the original cartoons we grew up on like “Scooby Doo Where are you?” hits are different in these times ! I’ve also noticed myself re-watching shows like Lee Daniels’ film “Star ” starring Queen Latifah. That was a show that SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN CANCELED in my opinion but what do I know!  

These 8 Movies Turn 20 in 2024

2004 was a fantastic year for films across all genres. The ten highest-grossing films in the world that year include Shrek 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Spider-Man 2, The Incredibles, The Passion of the Christ, The Day After Tomorrow, Meet the Fockers, Troy, Shark Tale, and Ocean’s Twelve. Though the majority of the films selected below didn’t make the top ten world box office, we included hits that are either long-forgotten or classic gems.

The Best of 2004

In 2004, there were a lot of films in the romantic genre that have set a precedent in its category. The Notebook, 13 Going on 30, and 50 First Dates all premiered this year. The early 2000s would be nothing without apocalyptic movies about the future, with films like The Day After Tomorrow and I, Robot. Family-fun films also were in abundance in 2004, with The Polar Express, Napoleon Dynamite, National Treasure, and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

Wes Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki, Peter Segal, Sam Raimi, and Steven Soderbergh all had amazing offerings this year. Anderson released his fourth film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Hayao Miyazaki’s seventh Studio Ghibli film, Howl’s Moving Castle, remains one of our top three films of all time by the director. Segal directed the Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler romantic comedy 50 First Dates this year, with another Sandler film the year before: Anger Management. Meanwhile, Sam Raimi made his last good Spider-Man film with the sequel. Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Twelve wasn’t nearly as awesome as the first installment, but we found ourselves thoroughly entertained when the heist flick came out twenty years ago. No matter what type of movie is your go-to, 2004 has a movie out there for every walk of life that we find ourselves going back to today.

  • 13 Going on 30

    This movie taught us how to do Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance! We fell in love with Mark Ruffalo with his role in the film as Garner’s long-lost love interest, and it is just one of those feel-good movies that’ll get a couple tears out of you with every re-watch.

  • Howl's Moving Castle

    Christian Bale stars as our beloved wizard, Howl. The actor agreed to play any role in the Miyazaki film after watching 2001’s Spirited Away. During the recording, Bale was preparing for his role as Batman in 2005’s Batman Begins.

  • White Chicks

    We couldn’t tell you how many times we watched this hilarious film starring the Wayans Brothers, but when we can recite almost the entire movie, it has to be a lot of times. You either hate or love this movie, but Terry Crews reciting Vanessa Carlton’s “1000 Miles” has got to be one of many pop culture moments captured in the film. He even did that scene in just one take!

  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

    Bill Murray stars as the titular character, Steve Zissou, who is based on real-life underwater filmmaker, Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Murray was so invested in his role, he became a certified diver, logging over forty hours during filming. Life Aquatic remains one of our top three favorite Wes Anderson films of all time.

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

    Though this movie is beautiful, funny, and heart-wrenching, it is one that you watch just once. Seeing Jim Carrey in a serious role alongside Kate Winslet was a perfect match. The film explores the idea of someone erasing you completely from their memories.

  • National Treasure

    Nicolas Cage became our national treasure after this action-adventure flick came out. Watching this movie as a kid filled us with wonder about our country, with Cage stealing the Declaration of Independence. Cage is a self-proclaimed history buff and acquired a 70-million-year-old dinosaur skull in an auction that cost him $276,000. The artifact turned out to be stolen in 2015 and had to return it to the Mongolian government.

  • 50 First Dates

    Upon our first watch of 50 First Dates, we had no idea how much it would tug on our heartstrings and make us cry every time we’d hear “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys. Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler gave The Notebook a run for its money this year, and we’d have to pick this film over the Nicholas Sparks story.

  • Spider-Man 2

    After Spider-Man 2, Sam Raimi dropped the ball with the third installment. However, we got much enjoyment out of this sequel which sees Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man face off between a new villain, Doc Ock, played by Alfred Molina.

Autumn, who is affectionately known as “Autty,” was born in Kalamazoo but grew up in Ann Arbor. As an only child in Ann Arbor, she of course grew up with Michigan Fans (go blue!) She now has two broken best friends…. okay, it’s her two kids. While you may hear her on the weekends on 105.9 KISS-FM, you can also find her at a lot of events in the city as part of the promotions and digital team for 105.9 KISS-FM, as well as our sister stations, 105.1 The Bounce and Detroit Praise Network. Autumn absolutely LOVES photography, you may also run into her at the hottest concerts in the D, normally in the pit getting photos of all your favorite throwback artists. When she finally gets some time away from work, she likes spending time with friends and family and there’s a good chance you’ll find her shopping at Target a few times a week. If it’s not at Target, then she’ll dive into her hobby of online shopping and writing about things happening around the D, and she even has an interest in orchestra and symphonies from her time playing the flute.
