Does J.B. Bickerstaff Deserve To Win NBA Coach Of The Year?
Does J.B. Bickerstaff deserve to win NBA Coach Of The Year? He has certainly made the argument for it this season!
Honestly, who expected the Pistons to look this good this year? They’ve been one of the most impressive and surprising teams this season and currently boast a record of 41-32 and are in 5th place in the Eastern Conference. This follows a historically bad season for the team in which they tied the NBA record for the longest losing streak at 28. This year, things are looking much better. Cade Cunningham has emerged as a star and J.B. Bickerstaff has shown that he’s the right person for the Pistons coaching job. What he has done is nothing short of amazing so far this season. Right now, he isn’t the favorite to win NBA Coach Of The Year, but he has an argument to make to take home the hardware.
Who Should Win NBA Coach Of The Year?
J.B. Bickerstaff has the Detroit Pistons in 5th place in the Eastern Conference after the team went 14-68 last year and finished in last place in the Conference. That’s quite the turnaround in one year! There are many things you can credit for the impressive 180. As mentioned earlier, Cade Cunningham has been healthy and was named an All-Star this season. He really showed the league what he’s capable of and it’s going to be exciting to watch him continue to grow into one of the league’s best guards. The lineup this year is different and is deep. The roster has everything you could want from solid guards, size, and shooters to go with effective defensive play. Most importantly, however, there’s J.B. Bickerstaff. To turn a team around this quickly that was that bad just a season ago? That’s something special and I think he deserves the credit.
Currently, Kenny Atkinson, head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has the best odds to win NBA Coach Of The Year at -1400, per BetMGM. Those odds mean it’s incredibly likely that Atkinson is going to win and it would be a major upset if he didn’t at this point. That’s a bummer because Bickerstaff has the 2nd best odds to win NBA Coach Of The Year at +700. Again, that means the odds aren’t great but could be a bet that could win you some big money if it hits. Like Bickerstaff, Atkinson deserves a lot of credit for his team’s turnaround. The Cavs are now one of the best teams in the league and have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 58-14. While he’s clearly done a great job with the team, they also have more raw talent on the roster than the Pistons. They have a super star in Donovan Mitchell, a rising star in Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and Darius Garland. That’s a lot of skill! In a way, they should be expected to contend to win the East and they should have a great record. He’s coaching a better team! You can’t say you expected the Pistons to be where they are right now. To me, that should give Bickerstaff better odds to win. It definitely is reason to start an argument.
What do you think? Does Bickerstaff have a chance or does Atkinson already have it in the bag?
