Will The Detroit Tigers Make It Back To The MLB Playoffs This Season?
Will the Detroit Tigers make it back to the MLB playoffs this season? They made a surprising run last year and optimism is high!
Baseball is in the air! While the regular season is already underway thanks to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs squaring off extra early in Tokyo, Opening Day in Detroit is just around the corner. This year, the Home Opener will be happening on Friday, April 4th at Comerica Park. The Tigers will be hosting the Chicago White Sox, although their season begins this Thursday, March 27th in Los Angeles to take on the defending World Series Champions, the LA Dodgers. Want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. That’s a great way to start off the season seeing the best the league has to offer. So, what are the expectations for the Detroit Tigers this season? If you ask around the city, hopes are high to make a return to the playoffs and continue that impressive run last season. However, if you ask ESPN things look a little different.
What Are The Expectations For The Detroit Tigers?
The Detroit Tigers looked great at the end of last season. Sure, it didn’t end the way we wanted to but the team came together for some great wins down the stretch and impressed the audience in and out of the 313. There are plenty of reasons to be excited heading into the 2025 season. However, ESPN seems to not be sharing our optimism.
ESPN has them at 18 on their latest Rankings in the pre-season. That falls under the “Tier 4: If everything breaks their way” category. That’s quite further down than you’d want to be. The Tigers are behind other teams in the division including the Kansas City Royals (14) and Minnesota Twins (17). ESPN predicts the Detroit Tigers will finish the season with a record of 83-79 giving them a 41.2% chance of making the playoffs. That’s not bad! It could be worse, but I expected us to be a little higher on the list.
ESPN says they have a chance to win the division which would be fantastic. The division should be competitive this season but there’s no reason to believe that the Tigers can’t make it back to the playoffs. Even if it ends up being a Wild Card spot, I’m expecting them to get to the playoffs and could end up making another surprising run, maybe going even further this time around? It looks like a Wild Card might be more likely as Cleveland and Minnesota should both have solid rosters, but I’ll take it! I’d also bank on another incredible season from ace pitcher Tarik Skubal.
So, to answer my question: Will The Detroit Tigers Make It Back To The MLB Playoffs This Season? I say yes! What are your expectations for the Detroit Tigers this season?
