JuJu Watkins Tears ACL, Ending Her Incredible Season
USC basketball star JuJu Watkins tore her ACL, ending her incredible season. That means she’ll miss the rest of the Trojans tournament run.
JuJu Watkins suffered a torn ACL in her right knee during USC’s second-round game against Mississippi State, according to ESPN. A team spokesperson says she will undergo surgery and then will start the rehab process. This is a major blow to the USC Trojans and to Watkins personally, who was arguably the best player in Women’s College Basketball this season. She had to be carried off the court only 5 minutes into the game. USC would go on to win 96-59 without their star player.
JuJu Watkins Tears ACL, Will Undergo Surgery
It was terrible to watch it happen and you instantly knew that the injury wasn’t going to be good and she wasn’t going to be able to just walk this one off. She was down on the ground for over a minute in clear pain. The team was obviously still emotional following the game and said they rallied around her and didn’t want to let her down.
Watkins was an AP All-American for the Trojans and is a contender for National Player Of The Year. She averaged 24.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game this season, per ESPN. She was a major part of the Trojans’ incredibly 30-3 season so far. The team even earned a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Last season, USC lost to UCONN in the Elite 8. The 2 teams might end up facing each other again this year and this time the Trojans will have to do it without their best player. That’s going to be a tough task.
Hopefully she’s able to recover and get back to full strength. She’s a one-of-a-kind player and I’m sure she’ll bounce back from this.
