Drake Praises Taylor Swift Above Any Other Artists in New Song
Drake accepts the award for Top Artist during the 2019 Billboard Music Awards at MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 1, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Taylor Swift attends "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" Concert Movie World Premiere at AMC The Grove 14 on October 11, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.
Drake is giving Taylor Swift her flowers in his newest song, “Red Button.” Just a little over a month after the rapper released his eighth studio album, For All The Dogs, he came out with the next entry in his Scary Hours series. The new project features six songs that the Toronto native says he wrote in the time since the album was released. The other five new songs are titled: “Stories About My Brother,” “The Shoe Fits,” “Wick Man,” “Evil Ways” featuring J. Cole, and “You Broke My Heart.”
Friendly Competition and Real Feuds
Scary Hours 3 released on Thursday (November 16) night. “Red Button” features the lyrics: “Taylor Swift the only n—- that I ever rated. Only one could make me drop the album just a little later. Rest of y’all, I treat you like you never made it. Leave your label devastated even when you pad the stats period I never hated.” The declaration is a testament to Drake and Swift consistently being the biggest names in music in recent years. They are both always at the top of the charts, and battle it out for the top spot when dropping music at the same time. For example, just last year, Swift released Midnights a week before Drake and 21 Savage planned to release their joint album, Her Loss. The rap album was delayed to the first week of November, and while Swift’s “Anti-Hero” track led the top of the charts, Drake’s joint album overtook Midnights. Despite the competition in the industry, the two artists remain friendly.
However, in the same song, Drake references his on-again, off-again feud with Kanye West. Funnily enough, Swift and Kanye have a troubled history as well. “Every time that Yeezy call the truce he had my head inflated. Thinking we gon’ finally peace it up and get to levitating. Realized that everything premeditated,” Drake raps on the track. In anticipation of the project, Drake said, “I did those songs in the last five days. I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All the Dogs dropped. It’s not like I’m picking up from some unfinished s—. You know, this is just happening on its own. And who am I to fight it?”
What Were The Hottest Concerts Of 2023?
The past two years saw the return of touring, and many acts have hit the road with a vengeance. There have been amazing live performances, with some of the biggest artists returning to the road. Some tours were delayed due to COVID-19, while some musicians happened to take a long hiatus from performing altogether. Whatever the reason, in 2023, musicians across all genres of music announced world tours and stadium tours.
Pop legends like Madonna and Janet Jackson are touring on a global scale, as are younger artists like Harry Styles and Morgan Wallen. Popularity with K-pop and Latin artists has brought musicians from both genres to have successful tours in 2023. Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Pink and the Cure have all been on the road this year as well.
There is, of course, massive hype around Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Her shows last three-and-a-half hours as she covers all aspects of her career, from country to pop to indie. With her two “surprise songs” each night, fans are always eager to find out what songs she’ll choose for that segment. On top of that, her timing is impeccable for fans “itching for a post-pandemic live music immersive experience.” Another factor is how much Swifties appreciate Taylor’s dedication to her craft: writing all her songs and reclaiming ownership of all of her music by re-recording her discography. Fans have also been buying and streaming the new versions of her old songs and the bonus tracks on her re-recorded versions of her albums.
