Kim Kardashian & Kanye: How She Told Their Kids About Divorce
Kim Kardashian shares how she broke the news that she was getting a divorce from Kanye West to their children. The former couple shares daughters North, 10, and Chicago, 5, and sons Saint, 7, and Psalm, 4. Kim and Kanye were married for six years before the SKIMS founder filed for divorce in February 2021. The divorce was finalized in November 2022.
In her new interview with GQ for the November cover, Kim says she learned a lot from her own parents’ divorce before telling her own children.
“I did think about how my parents handled it with us. I just remember them being open,” Kim said.
Kim Kardashian: How She Continues To Parent Her Children Amid Divorce
Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, was married to her father, Robert Kardashian, from 1978 to 1991. Jenner has admitted in the past that she had an affair while still married to Robert. At the time of the affair, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian were born. Jenner later went on to marry Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner following her transition in 2015) from 1991-2015. They share two children, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.
Later in the interview, Kim says that all she wants her kids to know is that she’s there for them and that they understand that they are “loved and heard.” She adds that it’s okay to be vulnerable and that the divorce process is hard no matter the age of the child. The beauty mogul has also used professional help during this time. She has her own therapist she’s spoken to prior to her divorce. Additionally, she speaks to a child psychologist to ensure that she is moving in the right direction for her and her children.
Kim has been open about the struggles of parenting. She admitted on Jay Shetty’s podcast that “Parenting is so f—— hard” but at the end of the day it’s worth it.
“It is the most rewarding job in the entire world. It is. There is nothing that can prepare you.”
