Autty Takes on Afro Nation
Afro Nation was an experience I will never forget! Between the two top tier stages with popular artists like Latto, Dej Loaf, Burna Boy, Coi Leray and more! The Festival gave us a Mo Pop / lollapalooza vibe but for the culture….our culture.
Afro Nation was hosted at the Brewster- Douglass project landmark which housed Detroit natives like The Debarges, Diana Ross and Loni Love. In March of 2012 Mayor Dave Bing announced that the Brewster Douglass Project was going to be demolished, the land was later purchased by Bedrock, which helped put this all together.
The food and the drinks were amazing plus, the Merch and pop up shops just added to how culturized it was. Afro Nation was a complete vibe! Detroit showed up and out! I was so impressed by the wardrobe choices on both days of the festival. No one does it better than Detroit when it comes to fashion.
I was able to catch up with Libianca, an up and coming Nigerian artist who had an unfinished song called “people” that went viral on Tik Tok in a matter of hours.
I also got to chat with P- Squared plus enjoy performers like Ari Lennox with Latto. Seeing other musicians support other musicians is such an inspiring sight. In the world we live in today it is so hard to feel unity in our culture, but Afro Nation gave us exactly what we needed!
Hits and hits from DJs all around the world filled the atmosphere plus dancing! Seeing everyone so free spirited gave you no option but to move your hips and shoulders any way you see fit. Some folks were pretty upset that certain performers like Naira Marley could not perform due to flight delays, but every artist that stepped foot on stage gave such a high energy performance it was extremely hard to even look away for a quick selfie with the crew.
The festival ended with one of Afro Musics biggest artists right now, Davido, he surprised us all by bringing out Latto on stage to perform one of the biggest songs in the world right now “unavailable:” the remix featuring Latto dropped August 19th 2023.
It seems like music festivals are the wave right now, for approximately $100 you could see your favorite artists and enjoy an unforgettable experience with your family and friends. Thanks so much Afro Nation for expanding to Detroit I can’t wait until you come back as we continue to bridge R&B/Hip Hop with Afro beats.
