Detroit Riverwalk Named The Best In The U.S. Again
Detroit wins 2 awards in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Award Contest
It should come as no surprise that the Detroit Riverfront has once again been named the best riverwalk in America.
That’s not the only award Detroit won in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Award Contest. Campus Martius was named the best public square this year.
More than three and a half million people stroll up and down the Detroit Riverwalk each year. The riverwalk also won the same contest from USA Today in 2021 and 2022 making it a three-peat for the popular Michigan attraction.
“The riverfront redevelopment in Detroit, a city with 14 miles of shoreline along the Detroit River, is one of the city’s most exciting initiatives,” USA Today wrote about the top-ranked riverfront. “The east riverfront of the Detroit International Riverwalk stretches from Joe Louis Arena to Gabriel Richard Park and includes several parks, restaurants, splash parks and natural areas.”
Of course, Joe Louis Arena, itself, is no longer in existence. The winning riverfront was determined by public daily online voting. Nominees were selected by 10Best editors along with a panel of urban planning experts. Overall, there were 20 riverwalks across the country in the competition.
Another big win for Michigan and the city of Detroit is Campus Martius Park. The popular community space in the city took the top spot for best public square in the U.S. from the same USA Today contest.
