Condemned Motel Being Turned Into Apartment Complex In Inkster.
When an Inkster motel was condemned by the city, a couple bought it with plans to turn it into apartments. The project is in its final stages and is expected to open in the spring. The property is owned by a husband and wife duo. Jennifer Medhi who is vice president of AAHM Investments said, “There was a need and what we don’t need is another motel. We have plenty of them here; they’re all over the place. What people need is affordable housing.” Medhi says the property will be a managed by a different company and plans to stat rents at $700. She hopes this project will change the way people view the city of Inkster and set a new standard for other investors and communities.
The property was purchased by Medhi and her husband in December 2021, and they have been transforming it ever since. Medhi told the press, “It was completely unlivable. It was 64 units. We gutted it down to the studs, made a lot of the rooms bigger so now it’s 32 units.” Not only did Medhi and her husband redo the units, but they also redid the parking lot. Medhi told reporters, “We completely redid the parking lot area, it needed a lot of work underground. There were sewer lines and sanitary drains collapsed.”
According to Medhi, there will be studio, one and two-bedroom apartments available. She said, “If we can kind of set the bar that ‘look what we’re doing and it’s successful’, maybe some of these other people will follow suit. We’re going to just set the bar there and see what happens,”
