Winter Blast Postponed Amid Frigid Temperatures
The Royal Oak Winter Blast, has been postponed two weeks due to potential bad weather as temperatures are expected to be frigid. Originally scheduled for Feb 3-5, the outdoor festival will now take place Feb. 17-19. Jon Witz, Winter Blast Royal Oak event producer released a statement saying, “Winter Blast is a much-anticipated event that offers an abundance of seasonal, outdoor experiences courtesy of so many entities – from the downtown small businesses to musicians to food truck operators and more – it’s a big investment for everyone involved. Our goal is to deliver an event that is as successful and safe as possible, and if we have the opportunity to move away from a weekend that could deliver bitter cold temps, we want to make that move. The same level of programming and entertainment will remain in place for the new weekend.”
During the event, activities will surround The Rink at Royal Oak at Centennial Commons, between Main Street and Troy Street, and 11 Mile Road and 3rd Street. The festival will feature heated tents and roasting stations to keep you warm.
According to Fox 2, the list of schedule events (subject to change) are as follows:
- There will be free ice skating at The Rink at Royal Oak. Participants can bring they own skates for a $5 fee.
- A snow slide
- A zip line
- A family zone with a kids’ stage
- Live music from Metro Detroit performers
- An ice garden and ice carving demonstrations
- The Mt Brighton Ski and Ride School will offer a learn-to-ski and snowboard experience that includes fitting attendees for skis and snowboards and taking them down a beginner-level slope.
If you plan on attending the Winter Blast please remember that the date has been moved to the 17th-19th of Feb. and to dress you and your kids warm.
