Michigan Football Player Has Hired An Attorney
The family of Michigan defensive back Gemon Green plans to seek criminal charges in the wake of the tunnel attack Saturday night, and they’ve hired an attorney to help.
Tom Mars of Mars Law Firm, the Arkansas-based trial lawyer who helped former Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson navigate the NCAA’s archaic transfer process in 2018, has been retained by the family to help seek criminal charges and monetary damage, Mars confirmed Monday afternoon in a text message to The Ann Arbor News/ MLive.
“When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice,” Mars wrote in a provided statement. “There has to be severe consequences for this kind of conduct.”
ESPN reported Monday that Green’s father said Gemon, a starting cornerback, was struck in the face, back and shoulder with a helmet, a scene captured on video and published on social media over the weekend. An investigation has been opened by the University of Michigan police department, and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh says Green and Ja’Den McBurrows, the other player involved in the altercation, both have injuries.
