Radio Personality Fired For Comparing His Toast Preference To Skin Tones Of Black Celebrities
A radio personality from Buffalo, New York, is out of a job after making offensive and ignorant comments, comparing his toast preferences to the skin tone of famous black women. Per the New York Post, Rob Lederman said, “I have them to the attractiveness of women that I find to be attractive. So I will never go to a Serena Williams level … but I’m very comfortable with a Halle Berry level. I need a little bit of mulatto still coming through.”
Later, when his co-host, Rich Gaenzler, asked if Gayle King was in his realm, he replied, “No, Gayle King is not even on my toaster level.”
His former employer released a statement that said that their company “operates from a clearly-defined set of programming principles and there is no question that Rob Lederman’s comments made… are in direct violation of those principles.” The company said it had fired Rob Lederman “and suspended the remainder of the show’s on-air talent. We apologize, and deeply regret the incident,” the company said in a statement.
Since the incident, at least one sponsor has pulled ads from the station.
