ABOUT THE ARTIST
Poetic’s birth name is Styron T Batchelor born in Naples, Pozzuoli Italy on November 7, 1983. He graduated from Malcolm X Academy Elementary School in June of 1998 and Mumford High School in June of 2001, both in Detroit, MI. Upon graduation from Mumford, Poetic attended U.S Army Basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
In June 2005, Poetic deployed to Forward Operating Base Q-West Iraq with the 172nd Stryker Brigade attached to the 101st Airborne Division. On February 2, 2006 Poetic was promoted to the rank of Sergeant at the age of 21 years old.
During his deployment Poetic was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Action Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.
After returning home, Poetic faced homelessness due to complications from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and severe depression until 2009 when he discovered a passion for God, music, radio, television, and film.
He graduated from the Recording Institute of Detroit in May 2009 and Specs Howard School of Media Arts in January 2011. Afterwards, he was hired as an on-air personality on “Mason In The Morning” with Detroit radio legend, John Mason.
In July of 2016, Poetic founded “Best for Vets”, a non-profit organization designed to improve the lives of veterans through empowerment. In addition, homeless veterans are provided access to resources like food, clothing, toiletries, and transitional housing.
As an artist Poetic has opened for Sinbad, Paul Mooney, Gerald Albright, Will Downing, Lala Hathaway, Bush Wick Bill of the Ghetto Boys, Professor Griff of Public Enemy and many more big acts across different genres of music; in addition to being in several independent films to include the recently released film Child Support which can be seen on Amazon Prime.
He is a poet, a lyricist, a producer, a film maker, a lover, a friend. Follow him on this wonderful journey as he becomes…Poetic!!!
