Ray Ciccarelli To Leave NASCAR Over Confederate Flag Ban
As we reported yesterday (6/10), NASCAR banned the use or display of the Confederate flag from all their events. That seems to have driven one driver to leave the sport.
Ray Ciccarelli, a NASCAR Truck Series driver, announced on Facebook on Wednesday (6/10) that he plans to quit the sport.
He posted in full, “Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over , i don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is f—ing one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!”
Fan reaction on Twitter has been mixed, one fan posted, “Ok bye I guess?? Who loves the flag of racists who lost in a war back in 1865? Especially when that flag wasn’t the one the flew for the majority of the war. Y’all idolize these symbols and you don’t even know the history. It’s exhausting. #RayCiccarelli.”
