Big Sean Announces His Fifth Studio Album ‘Detroit 2’
On Wednesday (Mar. 25), Big Sean announced his fifth studio album, Detroit 2, in honor of his 32nd birthday. The Detroit native made the announcement in an almost three-minute-long trailer where he reflects upon his hometown.
“Detroit to me is home, but I feel like it’s more than just a city,” Sean said while watching fireworks. “It’s for real, a mentality.” The trailer features teasers of Sean’s new music. One of the tracks played in the trailer samples Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.”
“Gettin’ to the paper like it’s human nature,” Big Sean raps alongside footage of Detroit. In the clip, Sean also is seen in the studio with Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, and Hit-Boy.
“It feel like a whole new energy in the city,” Big Sean said.. “It’s inspiring to watch to the point that it inspired me to go harder than ever. It’s like the phoenix rising out the ashes.”
Detroit 2 will serve as Big Sean’s sequel to his 2012 mixtape Detroit. Last year, on his “Overtime” freestyle, Big Sean teased Detroit 2. “I know which ones that’s been rockin’ with me since the prequel,” Big Sean rapped. “Just be cool / I know your favorite one, dawg / I’m ’bout to drop the sequel / [expletive], this just the preview, Don.” Detroit 2 will also be Sean’s follow up to I Decided.
