VIDEO: Today, Music Icon Bob Marley Would Have Turned 75
Today, Music Icon Bob Marley would have turned 75 years old. An irreplaceable icon when it comes to music; he popularized reggae music, first for American audiences, and then was most responsible for bringing it to the global stage. Today, we honor his memory.
One of the most tragic aspects to Bob Marley’s story is the fact that he passed away at the extremely young age of 36. However, in a short, nineteen-year recording career, he provided the world with more incredible music than many musicians could make in a lifetime.
Redemption Song, Stir it Up, Three Little Birds, Roots Rock Reggae, No Woman No Cry, Could You Be Loved, and Exodus are just a few iconic songs within his vast catalog of incredible music.
In spite of his tragic absence, however, today we seek to honor and remember Bob Marley for all of the good that he brought to the world.
Though he only lived to be 36, Bob Marley was a highly spiritual man, and certainly wise beyond his years. He was often the voice of reason amongst his friends, and was known for dropping profound sayings and quotes anytime a camera was recording in his presence:
Today, we wonder what a 75-year-old Bob Marley would be like. How would he respond to today’s music? To the rise of digital and social media technologies? To the spreading legalization of cannabis, both in America and abroad?
We can only speculate as to what he would say, specifically, about the modern world. But, we can say with confidence that his perspective would be thoughtful, unique, and certainly worth hearing.
On top of being the highly spiritual and inspirational man that he was, Bob Marley was, put simply, an incredible songwriter. His body of work, which includes dozens of timeless classics, crosses boundaries of age, race, religion, and economics, speaking to a broad range of people to this very day.
Happy 75th Birthday, Bob Marley. While we wish you could have stayed around longer and given the world more of your music, we are grateful for all that you gave in your short life. May your work and story continue to inspire people all over the world, as it has since the day when you passed.
