‘Captain Marvel 2’ Is In The Works
Captain Marvel saved Tony Stark’s life in Avengers: Endgame, and helped turn the tide in the final battle with Thanos later in the film. She’s one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. Oh, and her film, Captain Marvel – Marvel’s first film to f0cus solely on a female character – grossed over a billion dollars last year.
So, it’s not a huge surprise that a sequel is in the works.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Marvel has hired up-and-coming writer Megan McDonnell to write a script for the film; she’s currently a staff writer on the Marvel-based Disney+ series WandaVision, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles as Avengers characters Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, and the Vision. Wanda’s storyline will reportedly continue after WandaVision in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
WandaVision, currently in production, also sees the return of the Monica Rambeau, who was a child in Captain Marvel and who is now an adult. In the comic books, Rambeau eventually becomes a superhero who also takes the name “Captain Marvel.”
The Hollywood Reporter says that Marvel is looking for a female director for the film, and that they are hoping for a 2022 release; Captain Marvel 2 is currently not on their release schedule, but a number of other films are, including: Black Widow (May 1. 2020), The Eternals (November 6, 2020), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Feb. 12, 2021), Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (May 7, 2021), the next Spider-Man film (August 16, 2021), Thor: Love and Thunder (Nov. 5, 2021) and the next Black Panther film (May 6, 2022).
