The Church of God in Christ Elects Detroit Bishop to Lead Organization
The Church of God in Christ has elected a new Presiding Bishop.
The COGIC General Assembly has voted Bishop J. Drew Sheard of Detroit, Michigan, to lead the organization, according to a release.
“I am humbled and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve this extraordinary organization, the Church of God in Christ, as its new leader and Presiding Bishop,” Sheard stated.
Sheard is a Detroit native and grew up in the Motor City. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Education degree in Mathematics from Wayne State University.
He’s been senior pastor of the Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ since 1988.
Sheard is also married to Dr. Karen Clark-Sheard, a member of The Clark Sisters.
