Tree For Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony In Campus Martius Has Been Selected
Is it really time for Christmas already? It seems like 2023 just started. Where did the time go? Nevertheless, Friday afternoon, the tree selected for this years winter holiday display overlooking Campus Martius in downtown Detroit was hauled into place. Now, we’re eagerly anticipating the 2023 Detroit Tree Lighting event.
The 64-foot Norway spruce was lifted into place ahead of the Downtown Detroit Partnership‘s 20th annual tree lighting event. The tree will be decorated from top to bottom in all sorts of lights, decorative bulbs and ornaments on Nov. 17, which is the day the ceremony will take place for all Detroiters to see. The ceremony will be from 4pm-9pm. In addition to the tree lighting festivities, kids can expect a visit from Santa Claus, who will join the illumination of the 25,000 light display as part of the event. Please dress warm as it is possible for frigid temperatures.
What You Need To Know
Every year, thousands of people gather in Campus Martius Park for the annual Detroit Tree Lighting ceremony. The annual tradition has continued to grow over the years. This year, is even more special than years prior. That’s because this year marks the 20th anniversary of the event and will be called “Merry & Bright: 20 Years of Holiday Lights.”
This November, there will be lots of special events this year to celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary. Olympian Nathan Chen will do a performance on the Rink at Campus Martius Park; Miko Marks will perform on the MGM Detroit Main Stage; and Broadway star Talia Suskauer, whose currently touring with Wicked on Broadway, will perform as well. Something I’m really looking forward to? ‘Lil Boo Thang’ singer Paul Russell will be there! I love that song and it’s so catchy. I’ll have to see him perform.

If you plan on coming, plan on coming hungry. There are tons of food and drink options that will be available at the ceremony. Including an impressive lineup of food trucks!
