Cardi B is giving her loyal Bardi Gang a taste of new music as they patiently await the rapper's sophomore album to be released this year.

Cardi, 31, took to her since-expired Instagram Story on Monday night (July 1) to give fans another side of her music style. The clip finds the Bronx native showcasing a softer side of her, singing along to a sample of Janet Jackson’s 1986 track, “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun).”
In a tone that we have never heard Cardi sing in before, she lip syncs, “I hope that you on your way. Crazy ’bout you,” she sings over Jackson’s beat. “Waiting on you, can’t wait to sit on that face. Focused on you.”
“Yall like this vibe for CB2?” Cardi captioned the video, which shows her in a car. One fan said she wanted to cry to the song, but Cardi assured her, “Nooooooo you not supposed to cry wit this song this is a 4 play song …” Meanwhile, another fan said, “This janet jackson sample [biting lip emoji].” Added another, “Oh Cardi in her Janet Bag, Bitch!” One fan wrote: “IT IS THE ULTIMATE GAG IF SHE’S THE ONE SINGING…PLEASE CARDI LET THAT BE YA VOICE.”
Other fans shared their first impressions and commented things like, “SOUNDS INSANEEEE [fire emojis] LOVE IT.” Added another, “It sound soooo good!! We are so excited for CB2, it’s really coming soon!! [white heart emoji].” A third fan stated: “im cryingggg yall waiting 6 years for THIS [sobbing emojis].” Another fan commented, “This sounds so good [fire emoji].”
Cardi seemed to be practicing her affirmations on X over the weekend when she stated, “I have everything planned, locked, and ready to go. Every thing I said I would do this year, I’m going to do it. Nothing is going to stop me. I proved myself before and I’m going to do it again… now rest.”
One fan responded, “i’ve been begging for an album i need it from her so bad PLEASE this is so serious for me [sobbing emoji, prayer hands emoji.” Cardi replied, “[laughing emojis] yoooooooo I really really love y’all.”
It’s been more than six years since Cardi B’s debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy, dropped in April 2018. She went on to win best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards, with hit tracks like “Bodak Yellow,” “Be Careful,” and “I Like It.”

Janet Jackson’s “Funny How Time Flies” track, which appeared on Control, has been used by plenty of other artists as samples in the past. Tinashe’s “How Many Times,” SWV’s “M.C.E. (Man Crush Everyday),” The Lost Boyz’s “Renee,” and Camp Lo’s “Coolie High” all sample the track.
