NEWARK, NEW JERSEY - SEPTEMBER 13: Tory Lanez performs on stage at Prudential Center on September 13, 2019 in Newark, New Jersey.

Tory Lanez will officially serve his 10-year sentence in prison after his bail motion was denied in court today (Sept. 14). Lanez (born Daystar Peterson) stood in court today to ask that he be released on bail. According to legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff, Judge David Herriford noted: “The motion will be denied and proceedings concluded. Thank you.”

Despite the ruling not going in his favor, the rapper remained seemingly positive. Before heading out of the courtroom, the “Say It” rapper smiled at his family, friends, and supporters.

Prior to the ruling, Entertainment lawyer Michael Freedman told Cuniff that Lanez’s chances of the motion being approved are low.

“Generally, to get bail pending appeal, you have to show a substantial likelihood of prevailing on appeal, which often means a substantial likelihood you can show error by the trial judge. So it’s pretty rare for the trial judge to find the defense can make this showing about the same judge’s own rulings, especially after the judge has already denied post-trial motions raising those same arguments,” he said.

When Lanez was sentenced last month, he released a statement addressing his family, friends, and fans.

Tory’s statement read: “In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of,” Tory wrote on Instagram. “I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do. I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do. To my family, friends, and umbrellas thank you for your continued support. See you soon.”

He has not released a statement as of yet following the bail hearing.
