Issa Rae’s Rap S— has arrived. The new HBO comedy premiered Thursday (July 21) with two new episodes to kick off the eight-episode series season.
Rap S— follows two estranged high school best friends Shawna and Mia played by Aida Osman and KaMillion respectively. The Miami-based comedy centers on the two women starting a rap group and navigating their newfound friendship. The show will also display the difficulties women face as they break into the hip-hop industry. Rap S—‘s season premiere was written by Rae, and the Miami rap duo City Girls will serve as executive producers.
Earlier this week Issa revealed some of her favorite rappers helped her write music for the series. “We were able to have a traditional writers room, which was really funny, brilliant writers. Some of them were from Miami. And then, just to be able to have authentic rap– like the music has to be good, they actually have to be good rappers, we got to employ some of my favorite rap artists,” Rae said, citing PineappleCITI, Ncognita, and Dreezy.
The next episode for Rap S— will be on Thursday, July 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Take a look at how fans reacted to the first two episodes:
