Janet Jackson’s two-night documentary — simply titled Janet Jackson. — which aired on Friday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 30) followed the superstar from her humble beginnings in Gary, Indiana to her road to dominating the music industry. Jackson opened up about her past relationships, one of which immediately became a trending topic on Twitter. The Control singer’s relationship with rapper and producer Jermaine Dupri shocked fans as they found out the reason behind why their eight-year-long relationship ended was due to Dupri’s cheating.
When asked why the relationship ended he admitted to being “reckless” and how being with Janet got him more attention from other women.
“One of the weird things about dating Janet is that dating Janet attracts other women,” he said. “Girls wanted to talk to me more because I was dating her, which was really weird … and uhh, just y’know … I was a man.”
On top of the infidelities, Janet revealed that Dupri’s work was taking precedent over their relationship.
“He was a work-a-holic,” she said. “And he was constantly working. I would not see him for like three weeks, a month. And as soon as he would come in, he would go to the club. And it’s like carve out just a little time for me… and it was hard for him to do. His girlfriend was his work.”
Previously, Dupri blamed their breakup on geography because at the time he was living in Atlanta, Georgia and Jackson was living in Malibu, California. However, whichever way you want to spin it, Twitter was not having it and dragged Dupri for messing up a good thing with Janet.
