Netflix Christmas Films You Should Add to Your To-Watch List
The holidays are officially here, which means you’ll have the time to cozy up on the couch sipping hot cocoa with little marshmallows (or wine, we don’t judge) and binge-watching Christmas movies to make you feel warm inside. Yes, The Grinch and Home Alone are classics, but if you’ve watched them a hundred times, you might be in the mood for something else. Fortunately, Netflix has a holly and jolly selection of Christmas movies that you can watch to give Jim Carrey and Macaulay Culkin a rest. So, in no particular order, here are 6 Netflix Christmas films you should watch this month. 6 Netflix Christmas Films to Watch The Christmas Chronicles (2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaeDa_Uempk The Christmas Chronicles | Netflix Starring Kurt Russell, The Christmas Chronicles is a comedy film that follows two siblings who accidentally see Santa Claus and jump into his sleigh, causing it to crash. Losing all the presents, Santa must rally to deliver the gifts before Christmas morning—because, let’s face it, no one wants to wake up to an empty tree. Watch it if you’re a fan of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and you still want some Home Alone magic since the movie was produced by Chris Columbus. If you can’t get enough of Russell’s portrayal of the bearded St. Nick, a sequel, The Christmas Chronicles 2 is also available on the streaming platform. The Princess Switch (2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WBhj57fHeI The Princess Switch | Netflix Okay, we need to state this early on: this movie is cheesy. Still, it’s heartwarming and the kind of film whose only purpose is to entertain you. It’s perfect if you’re a fan of The Parent Trap, rom-coms with royals, and feel-good holiday movies. There is rags-to-riches, Cinderella story, romance, and Vanessa Hudgens trying to do a “Belgravian” accent. You can even make it a movie marathon, as it’s a trilogy: The Princess Switch, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, and The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star. Klaus (2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taE3PwurhYM Klaus | Netflix If you’re in the mood for animation or babysitting your niece or nephew while your sibling is getting wasted on eggnogs, watch the animated movie Klaus. The film is an alternative origin story to what we know of Santa Claus. The movie follows a postman who befriended a toymaker (Klaus). It’s a movie with stunning visuals, emotional depth and holiday feels which makes it a perfect family film. It was even nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 92nd Academy Awards but lost to Toy Story 4. Holiday in the Wild (2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8miCh30GcGU Holiday in the Wild | Netflix You might think Holiday in the Wild is not a Christmas movie, after all, it’s more like Eat, Pray, Love. It’s similar to that but with a Christmas theme. Starring Rob Lowe and Kristin Davis, watch this movie if you want a Christmas film that feels different, you’re an animal lover or if you want to see Africa, but your bank account only allows you to pay for your Netflix subscription. It’s got romance, a soul-searching journey, dealing with an angsty teenager, a shirtless Rob Lowe, and of course, a happily ever after. It is a Christmas film after all. Let it Snow (2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pitxxQYZcug Let It Snow | Netflix Let it Snow is like Love, Actually but with teenagers. Based on the young-adult novel by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle, the plot follows multiple intertwining storylines about love, friendship, and a lot of snow. If you’re a hopeless romantic, aren’t easily confused by movies with multiple love stories, and want to be entertained by Spider-Man's best friend, Jacob Batalon’s antics, add this to your to-watch list. The Knight Before Christmas (2019) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JtwROpSVWc The Knight Before Christmas | Netflix If you’re fantasizing about your knight in shining armor, this movie will let you live that fantasy with a literal knight from the 14th century. It stars Vanessa Hudgens (again) and Josh Whitehouse as a knight magically transported to modern-day Ohio before Christmas. It’s full of time-traveling shenanigans with Whitehouse trying to figure out modern-day technology and the predictable dilemma that comes with time travel: “Should I stay, or should I go?” Since it’s a Christmas rom-com, it’s obvious what the knight’s answer was. This holiday, skip the re-runs and indulge in some fun Netflix Christmas films. Whether you’re in the mood for some African safari, animation, or switcheroos, snuggle up and let these fresh picks entertain you or at least until you give in and watch The Grinch for the nth time.
