Most Talked About Moments At The MTV VMAs
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards have just wrapped up, and it was an event to remember. Some of the biggest names in music took the stage to perform their hits and celebrated by taking home well-deserved trophies. The red carpet was equally impressive, with standout looks from stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Tyla.
This year’s ceremony also introduced some exciting new categories, including “Most Iconic Performance,” where Madonna went head-to-head with fellow legends Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, Katy Perry, and Eminem. In the end, Katy Perry took home the award.
Taylor Swift led the pack with 12 nominations, followed by Post Malone with 11, and Eminem with eight. Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA each earned seven nominations.

Travis Kelce quietly showed his support for his girlfriend Taylor Swift after she gave him a sweet shout-out at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. The Kansas City Chiefs star “liked” an Instagram video MTV shared of Swift thanking him during her acceptance speech for Video of the Year at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.
“One person ONLY cheers louder for @taylorswift than I do – and that’s @killatrav #VMAs,” the network captioned the post. Swift caused a fan frenzy by publicly calling Kelce her “boyfriend” for the first time.
“I would always hear someone cheering from across the studio while we were shooting [the ‘Fortnight’ music video],” she said while proudly holding her Moon Person trophy. “And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis.” The crowd roared as she added, “Everything this man touches turns into happiness and fun and magic. I want to thank him for bringing that to our shoot—I’ll never forget it.”
Meanwhile, on the red carpet, Tate McRae channeled Britney Spears with a nod to the pop icon’s 2001 VMAs look. McRae arrived in a black balconette bra and matching underwear under a sheer lace dress—similar to the Dolce & Gabbana outfit Spears wore at the 2001 VMAs, though Spears’ version was navy blue and paired with more modest boyshorts.
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion also paid tribute to Britney with a costume change inspired by Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U” performance. Megan sported a green bustier top and micro-jean shorts with a flowing skirt effect, plus a live snake wrapped around her abdomen.
But Megan quickly tapped out of the full Britney moment. “OK, OK! Stop the music,” she joked onstage. “I’m just playing. I don’t know this snake, and this snake doesn’t know me,” she said, screaming as the handler removed the python from her arms.
Britney herself once reflected on the famous 2001 performance, calling it “one of my favorite performances.” She also admitted on X (formerly Twitter) in 2023, “I still remember how scared I felt when I was handed this snake and took the stage!!!”
