Kendrick Lamar Reveals SZA as Surprise Guest for Super Bowl Halftime Show
Weeks before his big moment at the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, Kendrick Lamar has dropped some exciting news.
On Thursday, Lamar and Apple Music shared a trailer showing him strolling across a football field, only to have SZA pop up from behind and splash him with water in a playful surprise. The two will headline the halftime show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.
SZA, once part of the same label as Lamar, Top Dawg Entertainment, appeared on his recent album GNX. She’s featured on tracks like “Gloria” and “Luther,” which includes samples of Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s If This World Were Mine.
The duo is no stranger to hits, having teamed up on the Oscar-nominated “All the Stars” and “Doves in the Wind.”
And there’s more good news: Lamar and SZA are hitting the road together for a 19-city North American tour! The Grand National Tour starts April 19 in Minneapolis and wraps up June 18 in Washington, D.C.
As for award season, SZA is heading into the February 2 Grammys with two nominations for her song “Saturn” in the Best R&B Song and R&B Performance categories. She’s already got four Grammys to her name.
Lamar is bringing home the heat too, with seven Grammy nominations, including nods for “Like That” (with Future and Metro Boomin) and “Not Like Us,” which is up for both Song and Record of the Year. He’s already won 17 Grammys so far.
SZA shared earlier this month, how much she’d love to team up with Kendrick Lamar again. While chatting on Sherri, she said, “I would love that. I think that would be amazing. He’s such a genius. And a part of his genius is him being so elusive and so mysterious. And I love it.”
The artist also opened up about how much Lamar has influenced her. “He’s a huge part of my fumbling and finding era,” she said with admiration. “I’m trusting all of his expertise and being thrust into these moments in the spotlight and saying yes. He’s so good at saying yes but staying grounded. So I’m just like, ‘Teach me, sensei, what you know.’”
In addition to all of her moves, SZA has been busy promoting her new movie, One of Them Days.
