Everything We Know About the ‘Anaconda’ Reboot With Jack Black And Paul Rudd
Raise your hands if you didn’t think you’d see a reboot of the Anaconda movie franchise, which was started in 1997 with the Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube-starring original Anaconda. Well, it is happening. Sony is set to release a comedy reboot of the horror movie on December 25, 2025. Because what better way to spend the holidays than to see a movie about a giant snake, am I right?
If you loved (or loathed) the first film, which spawned four more sequels—Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid (2004), Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008), Anacondas 4: Trail of Blood (2009), and Lake Placid vs. Anaconda (2015)—then keep reading for everything we know about the comedy reboot and whether it’s worth spending your Christmas money on.
Who Will Star in the Anaconda Reboot?
Comedy geniuses Paul Rudd and Jack Black lead the cast of the reboot. The duo shot a teaser announcement for the movie. Black described the movie as “There’s going to be a big f—ing snake and it’s gonna rip!” Rudd added, “You wanna get scared? You wanna laugh? You wanna celebrate with your friends? Or maybe you’re alone and sad and have nobody but just want to forget about that.”

Apart from the pair, Selton Mello from the movie I’m Still Here will be making his debut in his first English-language movie. Arrested Development‘s Ione Skye, The Pursuit of Happyness‘ Thandiwe Newton, and Sahara‘s Steve Zahn are also part of the cast.
The film will be directed by Tom Gormican, who is perhaps best known for creating the TV series Ghosted and directing Nicolas Cage’s movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
What’s the Plot?
The Anaconda reboot follows a middle-aged group of friends who embark on a journey to remake their favorite movie (as opposed to the original, which was about a film crew shooting a documentary on a long-lost Amazonian tribe). They travel to the rainforest, only to find themselves in life-or-death situations, facing not only giant snakes but also natural disasters and violent criminals.
Black is a wedding videographer and will play the movie’s director, while Rudd is a cop-show actor who realizes that his dream of becoming a Hollywood star is far-fetched. Essentially, remaking their favorite movie is their chance to make it big in the entertainment industry—similar to today’s YouTuber or TikToker who had a viral video. Newton and Zahn play their childhood friends, who get roped into their shenanigans. Mello is an animal wrangler (like Jon Voight’s character in the original film, though it has not yet been determined if he will also be the villain), and Skye will play Black’s wife, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
