Eddie Murphy to Play Funk Legend, George Clinton, in New Biopic
Eddie Murphy will be bringing the story of a funk legend to our screens. The Oscar nominee will play George Clinton in a new biopic to portray the funk legend’s life and career over the years. Murphy will reunite with Dreamgirls director, Bill Condon, to make this happen.
According to Deadline, the movie will be produced by Murphy through his company and written by Virgil Williams. The film is based on Clinton’s memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You? Fans can expect to go through Clinton’s life and see the story of the creation of Parliament-Funkadelic.
Eddie Murphy to Tackle The Funk Legend
If you grew up in the era, then many know that Clinton and his bands Parliament and Funkadelic brought a new, wild idea of music to the industry at the time. The funk era brought outlandish themes, surreal sounds, and psychedelic shows to the forefront of the music industry.
Clinton, who was born in North Carolina, grew up in New Jersey. He first entered the musical stage in his teenage years when he formed a doo-wop group inspired by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers called the Parliaments. The journey led to the funk era in music that blew up in the 50s and 60s.
